Extended-confirmed-protected edit request on 4 July 2026

The rulers of Poonch State, more specifically the first and last rulers, should be added to the infobox, just like it would have been for any other kingdom. Smart Sherlock (talk) 07:32, 4 July 2026 (UTC)

It was not recognized as a state by the British Raj. It is called an "internal jagir" by the reliable sources. So I don't agree to treating it as a "Poonch State". -- Kautilya3 (talk) 21:27, 4 July 2026 (UTC)

History of Poonch district → Poonch JagirPoonch Jagir – The page is structured around and primarily focussed on the Jagir of Poonch, a semi-indepedent territory with hereditary rulers, that existed until the late 1940s. District is a modern administrative term, when the territory started being governed by elected representatives post the independence of India and Pakistan. • Lean to Oppose. The vast majority of sources call it a district. Sumantra Bose states that the Maharaja of Kashmir "deposed" the (feudatory) ruler of Poonch during the World War II and administered it as a district.   However, before the "deposition" of the 1940s, Poonch had a lot more autonomy; it was not merely a district; it had hereditary rulers with an amount of sovereign power. The article is already structured around the Poonch Jagir (which came into existence in the 1820s), as well as its struggles with the Raja of Jammu and Kashmir for sovereignty.
