Hindi is official in Fiji

The official language is depicted as Fiji Hindi. This should be changed to Hindi https://files.eric.ed.gov/fulltext/EJ1328357.pdf - a file from the department of linguistics of the US State Dept of Education Government page 2 & 3 state "Standard Hindi is recognised as the formal language" "Fiji Hindi has no accepted writing system"↵As per this source too - https://www.academia.edu/63366583/Multilingual_Proficiency_in_Fiji_Primary_Schools Hindi is designated as the formal language of Instruction, not Fiji Hindi. "Standard Hindi and Bau Fijian" Another source also backs up this claim - https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0738059306000332 where it says children learn Standard Hindi for formal purposes. Formal - education, careers etc. The constitution of 1997 also says English, Fijian and Hindustani as the official languages of Fiji - https://constitutionnet.org/sites/default/files/1997_constitution.pdf. Hindustani refers to Indian Hindi or Standard Hindi. So in conclusion Fiji Hindi which was removed from the education system, has no writing system, the government uses Hindi Other sources to back me up are (a) Fijian government radio programs - https://www.fiji.gov.fj/Media-Centre/Radio-Programs (Hindustani and Itaukei) not Fiji Hindi Lastly, the Fiji constitution recent amendments also show three linguistic options - https://www.laws.gov.fj/Home/information/constitutionoftherepublicoffiji English Fijian Hindi. When Fiji Hindi (a) Is not explicitly declared as the official variant of Hindi (b) Does not have an accepted writing system and according to the eric.ed.gov report - was removed from national exams in favour of standard Hindi (c) Standard Hindi - is used for all formal purposes. It does not make any sense to show 'Fiji Hindi' as the official languages. Other wikipedia-alternative sites also clarify that standard hindi is official NOT Fiji Hindi - https://en.bharatpedia.org/wiki/Fiji Gadfiumcheatingwife (talk) 10:18, 23 July 2025 (UTC)

Recently added lead content
[edit]User:دثلميح, thank you for your interest in improving the article. Unfortunately, there were multiple problems with it, so I had to remove most of it, for reasons given in detail in these four reverts. The WP:LEAD is supposed to be a summary of the most important points of the article, and much of your added material was detailed content added directly to the lead that was neither a summary, nor anything already covered in the body of the article. Some of this content, such as the demographics, might fit in the body (which does not currently have a section about that, so you could create it). If so, and if it is among the most important points of the article, you can then summarize it briefly in in the lead. Some existing sourced content was removed without any clue why; that has been restored. If you feel it doesn't belong and deserves to be removed, can you say why? Some information about the linguistic dominance of Hindi and shift or attrition of regional languages may lead to what linguists refer to as language endangerment, and is a legitimate topic that could be covered here; however citing such claims to a Tamil politician is hardly the best source on this topic. As for the age of modern standardized written form of Hindi, this is covered in the § Hindustani section, so you could add something to the lead that summarizes the details there. If the content in the section are not sufficiently detailed or cited, you can expand the body section first so it tells the proper story, and then add a summary sentence to the lead about it. In the column of official status - besides Gujarat "(additional)" should be added, legally Hindi is an additional official language of Gujarat also in the description saying Hindi is an official language is 10 states --> change it to hindi is an official language is 9 states and an additional official language in the states of Gujarat and West Bengal Nareshbhai Ben (talk) 07:24, 8 May 2026 (UTC)

Change "language's" to "languages" and add a period to the end of the following sentence: "Hindi is also one of the national language's of Fiji" (last sentence in the article's second paragraph, first paragraph under Quick Facts) Somewhat exulting (talk) 13:33, 21 July 2026 (UTC)
- Also, should this sentence be included? I have no knowledge of this, but there is no citation included to back up this claim. Feels like the inclusion of this sentence could be potentially motivated by political interests. The grammatical errors also indicate that this was a recent addition. Somewhat exulting (talk) 13:45, 21 July 2026 (UTC)
Partly done: I got rid of the apostraphe. Per WP:SCROLLDOWN, the lead doesn't need sources, as long as they are included in the body of the article, which this is. I did update the word "national" to "official" to be consistant with the ext below. meamemg (talk) 14:05, 21 July 2026 (UTC)- I've removed the sentence, which was added by a block evader. The nominator has contributed very little to the article, and as such this nomination is a drive-by and must be quick-failed. Additionally, the article has large un-cited portions and almost no coverage of grammar, syntax, etc. Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 15:33, 27 August 2026 (UTC)
