Contraversial nature of Super Profits Tax
[edit]I feel like there is a bias in this article. There is a suggestion that the Super Profits Tax is what lost Kevin Rudd the Prime Ministership but no sources. It was more complicated than that. There was a feeling he hadn’t pushed climate action far enough when he had claimed it was the moral dilemma of our time. He had a very hostile senate and there was a feeling he should have called an election to settle the matter of climate action (which at the time centres around a carbon credits scheme which the Green didn’t think went far enough). There was also an internal feeling that he was not a good party manager and had anger management issues (this was news to the public with who Rudd was initially quite popular with). Either way the characterisation here isn’t supported and is too simplistic.
It should also be noted there was a huge push via Murdoch media and IPA against the tax. It would have had no real impact on the average person. Commodity prices are set by the market. The only reason an average person would be against it is because they’ve swallows media propaganda for the mining companies. Kcdl4 (talk) 21:37, 27 May 2022 (UTC)
