"(some claim he deliberately stayed too far south on his Dutch-funded voyage)"

Unless someone can provide a citation in support of this statement from an acceptable source, I believe it should be deleted.

Hendrick Hudson High School in Montrose, NY is also named after him.

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want made. Please detail the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. InfernoHues (talk) 00:38, 30 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Incorrect Hopewell Voyage Dates

[edit]

Hudson did not reach Greenland on May 13, 1607 but on June 13th. The journey indeed began on May 1st but the Hopewell reached the Shetlands on May 26th before eventually sailing north and west and sighting Greenland on the 13th of June.

Source is a primary account from one of the crew, John Playse.

1609 expedition – Isaac Le Maire and French competition

[edit]

I would like to suggest a small addition to the beginning of the section “Expedition of 1609”. I therefore suggest adding something along these lines:

“In late 1608, Hudson arrived in Amsterdam, where he came into contact with Isaac Le Maire, a former director of the VOC who was involved in plans for a French East India Company. Le Maire sought to interest Hudson in searching for a northeast passage to Asia under French auspices. The Amsterdam Chamber of the VOC subsequently resumed negotiations with Hudson, who signed a contract on 8 January 1609.”[1]~2026-43278-70 (talk) 04:56, 22 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

There is a formatting error:

"he sailed up the Mahicannittuk (Mohican), (a.k.a., Ka'nón:no [Mohawk] and Muhheakantuck [Lenape]), later named the Hudson River, and thereby..."

should read as:

"he sailed up the Mahicannittuk (Mohican) (a.k.a. Ka'nón:no (Mohawk) and Muhheakantuck (Lenape), later named the Hudson River[citation needed]), and thereby ..."

This is my suggestion for the change to make it readable, however, I also don't see the alternate river names in the sources referred to in this sentence. It should require its own source. PublicUsername1999 (talk) 09:32, 23 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Not done: Per MOS:BRACKETS, when a parenthetical is contained within another parenthetical, the innermost uses square brackets and the outermost uses round. No opinion regarding the river names. DrOrinScrivello (talk) 15:49, 23 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
