Suicide not confirmed

It is not sure how Hector died. Officially, he died of an heart attack. The suicide is a rumor that has never been confirmed. There's also been speculation that he fled the country and faked his own death.


According to Hector Carlier's death certificate, signed by Doctor Zaman, the cause of death was determined on January 1, 1946 as "angor pectoris", or a heart attack. However, rumors have been circulating for decades that he committed suicide, or even faked his death to protect the family fortune from possible confiscation by the Belgian state, as he was accused of economic collaboration during the Second World War.
