When he emigrated there was no South Africa. It did not exist. We are retroactively imposing the future on the past 8f we say this. The South African Republic is different in area then South Africa and ceases to exist 11 years before South Africa can be formed. What is now South Africa was 4 or more distinct political units at the time. It is not a "regime change" it is much more.John Pack Lambert (talk) 01:38, 12 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
