Harranians were of mixed origin

[edit]

Nobedarê Dunav, please do not push a one-sided ethnic narrative here. The Harranians were not one homogeneous non-Arab ethnic group. Harranian is mainly a geographical designation and "Sabian" is a religious designation.

Tamara Green's Brill study on Harran explicitly mentions Mesopotamian, Aramaic, and Arab elements among the population and traditions of Harran.

The same applies to Thabit ibn Qurra. Plenty sources use Arab to describe him. Arab mathematician Thabit Ibn Qurra.

Angela Axworthy likewise calls him the Arab mathematician Thabit ibn Qurra in an academic volume published by Springer.

There are also sources emphasizing his Syriac language and Sabian background, and those views can be included.
