Primary topic?

[edit]

Is this subject clearly (still?) the primary topic of this article title? I arrived here looking for the Australian person, landed on this page, which doesn't even hatnote her, who is instead two clicks away via a very short and oddly formatted dab page.

For context I'd never heard of either until 30m ago, when I saw a news story about the "media mogul". ~2026-39276-06 (talk) 07:14, 3 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

If you think the Australian person is the primary topic, then you should propose that as an option in the requested move at Talk:Hannah Ferguson (commentator)#Requested move 31 July 2026. I suppose this article's title could easily be disambiguated as "(model)". Qwerty123M (talk) 07:40, 3 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I've no reason to suppose either of them is the considerably predominant topic of the name, hence my musing on a DAB. Thanks for pointing out that RM though, as I'd entirely missed it! ~2026-39276-06 (talk) 01:12, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hannah FergusonHannah Ferguson (model) – Not at all clear there's a single primary subject for this article title. A disambig for our two-and-a-bit articles on real and fictional persons of this name seems more sensible. ~2026-39276-06 (talk) 01:40, 4 August 2026 (UTC)  Relisting. Axolitl (talk | contribs) 04:41, 11 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

ETA: Hence also Hannah Ferguson (disambiguation)Hannah Ferguson. Apologies for the out-of-order and out-of-time addition, but evidently another editor insists. ~2026-39276-06 (talk) 14:28, 5 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose for now. Hannah Ferguson (commentator) is only a few days old. This article has been averaging 57 hits per day, so the model is not totally obscure, and as this is a WP:ONEOTHER situation, the hatnote is sufficient disambiguation. If things change, this can be revisited in a month or two. Station1 (talk) 06:01, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
For clarity, I'm proposing a 'no primary topic' sitch with a DAB, not that the model be declared totally obscure and the new person the landing page.
TBH I hadn't noticed the other article was quite that new, so fair comment on that score. Still older than me having heard of either of them, mind you! (If anything, the third topic of the two-and-a-bit articles on the existing DAB might have been it for me prior to that.) But even seven days might add some clarity, who knows. As I found it the AU person was two clicks away, as the hatnote was to the existing DAB. This seems a little better now, other for any poor unfortunates looking for the fictional character. Not quite a ONEOTHER setup, albeit very nearly so. ~2026-39276-06 (talk) 10:53, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

@~2026-39276-06: The disambiguation page should be included in this discussion. A second RM is unnecessary. 162 etc. (talk) 19:26, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I'm happy for the two to be considered together, just wanted to be as transparent as possible about what was proposed and which pages it'd involve. ~2026-39276-06 (talk) 21:19, 4 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

[Merging discussion from Talk:Hannah Ferguson (commentator) to this discussion]

– Multiple requested moves similar to the proposed options have been open for a while, I would not like an RM to be litigated over multiple pages so the purpose of this discussion is to centralise discussion from multiple places.

I support the first two proposals as there is presently not an entirely clear WP:PRIMARYTOPIC out of either option and I think the article about the Australian commentator should stay as it is currently as that matches common language used in multiple sources per WP:COMMONNAME. Pageviews may be in favour of the model's long-term notability but the sources are currently in favour of the commentator, although my search results may be more biased as my internet connection is based in Australia so a diversity of opinions here would be greatly appreciated. Sources are an equally important factor as page views in determining a primary topic per WP:DPT. Per a Google search, I get very few secondary source results for the model but many for the Australian commentator, upon making a Google News search, I have found that the model has some coverage though it is not as recent as the commentator; secondary sources are preferred in many instances per the general notability guideline. I also support deleting the disambiguation page as that is currently a WP:ONEOTHER situation where a simple hatnote pointing to the commentator article is appropriate here, the disambiguation page links to a movie character but it would be just as easy to navigate to the movie's page and then find the character's name. I'm not sure there's a need to merge the two discussions, as there's two orthogonal questions in play. First, whether there's a PRIMARYTOPIC or not; seconds, what "and what did you do?" parenthetical to use for the Aussie. Those only interact if one believes that the politics person be the primary, which seems unlikely on the face of it, and has at no point been advocated by anyone that I've noticed. Mind you, if you're in Australia or are reading the Guardian and see an unqualified mention of the name, then the referent is she.
But to reiterate my positions, I'd move the model to "(model)", keep the commentator at "(commentator)", and move the DAB to the unqualified title. Reflects their similar order-of-magnitude notability (even if your primary metric is insta followers!), avoids either orphaning the DAB and its low-key third entry, or on the other hand making the qualified article two clicks away from the main articlename. ~2026-39276-06 (talk) 12:50, 9 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
