Naming Change to Halter Top

[edit]

This should be called halter top, considering that is the most common usage. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.59.229.125 (talkcontribs) 04:49, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

No, I disagree because the article says that a halter top is type of halterneck, so it would require a separate article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sbluen (talkcontribs) 15:53, 23 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Indeed, halterneck is a shape of part of a garment. Halter top is a specific type of garment incorporating such a thing. Hence the statement, "This can refer to either a dress or a separate shirt". Though it does seem at the moment to imply wrongly that halterneck bras don't exist. -- Smjg (talk) 14:33, 24 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Well, the page should be moved to halter neck (since that is the wp:common wp:english name) and we should have a halter top article as well, but the two pages shouldn't be combined since they have different wp:scopes.
Now, that said, if we are only going to have one page and deal with both scopes in a single article, yes, halter top is by far the more common term (see ngram above).  LlywelynII 02:47, 7 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Etymology

[edit]

I was under the impression that "halter" was from the old word for noose, rather than from any foreign language. Hairy Dude (talk) 22:03, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Halter actually comes from the old word for "lead rope", in reference to horses and farm animals, but yes it's Germanic.  LlywelynII 02:49, 7 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Pics

[edit]

There needs to be a photograph of both the front and back views, the back view being a very important element of this style. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.226.94.175 (talk) 20:37, 26 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
