"Half" = 50%?
[edit]It's my impression tht - for the British Royal Navy in the early modern period - "half pay" was a rather smaller fraction of full pay. I've no idea where or when I read this, how widely it perhaps applies to other services and times and/or other nations - or, really, whether I'm wrong or right in the first place.
In any case, it would be good if the article clarified the point - as it stands it leaves the impression tht half-pay is 50% (and it reads as if in current US practice it is?) but an explicit statement would be good . . anybody? with reliable source(s)? 92.19.136.244 (talk) 22:34, 9 September 2025 (UTC)
