I note that this article was proposed for deletion on the grounds of lack of notability. I have removed the tag.

I suggest that he meets three different guidelines from Wikipedia:Notability (people). While it could be argued that any one of these is insufficient, surely meeting three of them will suffice:

1) Any biography
"The person has received a notable award or honor, or has been often nominated for them."

--- Roth has received the Cruising Club of America's Blue Water Medal. One such medal has been given in almost every year since its inception in 1923. The list reads like a Who's Who of international yacht cruising; a number of other awardees have Wikipedia articles, including Sir Francis Chichester, Sir Alec Rose, Bernard Moitessier, Eric Tabarly and Thomas J. Watson, Jr..

2) Any biography
"The person has made a widely recognized contribution that is part of the enduring historical record in his or her specific field."

--- Roth's books are a part of the standard library of long distance cruisers. In planning our own circumnavigation and subsequent trips they have been most useful. I note that most (perhaps all) of his sailing books are still in print, despite the first of them having a 1972 copyright date.

3) Athletes
"People who have competed at the fully professional level of a sport, or a competition of equivalent standing in a non-league sport such as swimming, golf or tennis."

--- Roth competed (fourth out of fourteen in class) in the 1986-87 BOC Challenge. The event is fully professional and brings out the world's top ocean racers.
