Earlier HALs
[edit]Didn't Windows (and probably some other operating systems) have a HAL before this thing, even if it did the same thing? --CCFreak2K 09:28, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
- Windows NT - and other operating systems - have hardware abstraction layers, but they don't do the same thing as the freedesktop.org HAL; they exist at a much lower layer. The name chosen by freedesktop.org can be a bit confusing, for that reason. Guy Harris 17:53, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
Can someone clarify the difference between e.g. Windows NT HAL and freedesktop.org HAL?

HAL and DeviceKit

Bias

- Well, since at least one non-"Lignux" OS still relies on HAL, I agree the article is biased. It cannot be said "HAL was..." nor can it be declared "obsolete". I'm tagging this article as biased, this should be discussed further... Arny (talk) 13:10, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
