Four spellings
[edit]There appear to be at least four spellings of this god's name: Honir, Hönir, Hœnir, and Höner. We ought to pick one and be consistent with it. I'd make the change, but I don't know which is the most accurate (or most representative of the pronunciation, etc.) Jonathan Grynspan 07:18, 30 Nov 2004 (UTC)

African?

- Personally I think it would be a very interesting story if Hönir, or any other Norse god, had connection to Africa. Unfortunately, I think this claim is not only wrong, but quite absurd. I have not been able to find any source that can verify it, and I propose a revision here unless the author can bring forth something to substantiate this claim.

- From a quick investigation it turns out that the person who wrote this has been reprimanded for vandalism several times. I say is enough reason to go about and edit the article.

Haenir =Njord
[edit]If we analyze the names it becomes evident that they share proto indo-european roots. According to wiktionary, Njord is derived from h₂nḗr, which is roughly pronounced as hah-NAIR. The similarity in sound with Haenir can’t be overstated. I’m surprised no linguists have noticed this.
As a result the hostage exchange between the Aesir and Vanir is ironically of the same deity, which is interesting, considering the implications of Mimir being executed. Perhaps Haenir and Njord should be perceived as different aspects of the same diety, similar to how Odin/Hermod/Od are different aspects of Wodinaz.
Njord and Haenir also share some attributes. For instance Haenir is described as ”long legs” and Njord was picked by Skadi due to his fancy feets. 2A02:1406:247:3F2E:F5CB:724:182E:EB4F (talk) 16:23, 20 July 2025 (UTC)
