Stanthorpe industries

The article presently states that copper, gold and tin were the mining industries in Stanthorpe. However: Alluvial tungsten ("wolfram"), in Quart Pot Creek and elsewhere around the area, is a valuable metal that was responsible eventually for the establishment of Stanthorpe as a mining village. The article also fails to mention: The wine industry has become a major tourist attraction and money-earner for the area, with over 50 wineries around Stanthorpe and the village of Ballandean - the local wines have won national prizes, particularly for the whites which grow well in the cool climate and granitic soils. The wine industry and the newer vegetable and soft fruit industry (for example, capsicums, strawberries) have been responsible for reviving the fortunes of the area and providing employment that has seen an expansion of the population. There is a biennial Apple and Grape Festival in Stanthorpe. A novel source of attraction for tourists from the capital city Brisbane is that Stanthorpe is the only town in Queensland that experiences snow in the Winter. 144.137.67.17 (talk) 07:38, 3 February 2023 (UTC)
