Quartz is not ONE thing - it has different forms

Quartz exists in two forms, the normal α-quartz and the high-temperature β-quartz, both of which are chiral. No mention of which kind is found in granite - the α-quartz is the more common.  Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.243.106.82 (talk) 20:09, 10 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

The transition from alpha to beta quartz is conformational only; no bonds are broken. As a result, the transition is never supercooled. Beta-quartz always transforms to alpha-quartz below the transition temperature, so quartz in any rock at room temperature is always alpha-quartz.
