Splitting this Page int Grafana (Software) and Grafana Labs
[edit]Splitting proposal
[edit]My suggestion is to divide the current Grafana article into two, so that we don't mix up the two subjects and write more concernedly in both articles. As it stands, the content encompasses two distinctly different subjects:
- Grafana (Software): This article would focus on the open-source analytics and monitoring platform, detailing its technical features, usage, and development history.
- Grafana Labs: Company behind Grafana, including corporate history, business, related organization information.
The logic for this separation goes like this:
- Content Relevance: Grafana software and Grafana Labs cover different aspects of the same subject. Meantime, separating them into different articles will allow each topic to be covered in greater detail, without mixing different topics within one file.
- Future Project Expansion: If the article is split, it will be simpler to establish dedicated pages for other Grafana Labs projects — like Loki, Mimir, and Tempo — so that every project can get the coverage it requires without making an ever-more-catch-all article.
I'm open to feedback and suggestions about this proposal. If there is a consensus I will do the edits as per the process in Wikipedia:Splitting. Punkyeve (talk) 09:03, 14 February 2025 (UTC)
- Based on similar organizations and their Wikipedia pages, I agree with this approach.
- Example: Elastic NV (company), Elasticsearch (OSS software), Kibana (OSS software) Vidamon (talk) 05:12, 18 January 2026 (UTC)
- Do not split until there is more added about the company. I don't see anything that indicates they need their own article (yet
). Ditto for if other related products have more content. WidgetKid chat me 21:02, 18 January 2026 (UTC)
- Not sure how to give thanks in a Talk page, but appreciate your reply, @Widgetkid :) Vidamon (talk) 18:12, 20 January 2026 (UTC)
