Expanding Article

[edit]

I am planning to greatly expand this article over the next week or so, based on a significant amount of reputable/academic research I have gathered on the subject. I would very much welcome any and all feedback, critique and/or suggestions on my contributions. I am planning to add a number of new sections: a Background section, on the historical context that preceded and led to the Act; an Effects/Impacts section, on the Act's reception by Indigenous Canadians and the tribal councils following its enactment, and its influence on subsequent legislation (particularly the Gradual Enfranchisement Act of 1869 and Indian Act of 1876); and possibly a Legacy/Criticism section where I will summarise the views of modern scholars and Indigenous Canadians on the Act. I will also revise the Conditions of the Act section to be more comprehensive (re-naming it to Policies of the Act for starters), and attempt to re-write the lead to reflect all of this additional content. I'm open to any thoughts on this planned layout/content. WFTDW2021LPO (talk) 04:09, 5 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
