"due to the meta quest's limitations he chose a low poly artstyle" I don't believe to be true

[edit]

as a fan of the game for now 3+ years,(going on 4) the line has ALWAYS been, "he picked the low poly artstyle due to his inexperience in modeling" and thats why the games textures and models were "upgraded" (subjectively) in the summer update of 2022, of course the quest is limited but this story isn't of a mastermind, he wasn't thinking about that yet it worked out anyway. (take this with a grain of salt, I don't have proof, but it'd always seemed to me common knowledge that it was in its entirety his at the time admittedly poor modeling, final note, please do let me know if this is a correct usage of the talk feature)Beesul (talk) 22:02, 6 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Yes, you did fine with the talk feature.
I think your point is interesting - the source cited says "Targeting the original and underpowered Oculus Quest headset, Smith knew he would need to work within his limitations for Gorilla Tag, and he told me he was inspired by a YouTube channel called Alpha Beta Gamer that's dedicated to playing under-the-radar indie games, many of which featured PS1-style visuals." (The source also says elsewhere that the game has a "low-poly (and now heavily memed) art style".)
When writing the article, I interpreted the source as saying that the Quest had limitations, and that the inspired art style was implemented as a result (together with the inspiration from the videos). Now that you mention that, I guess saying that he worked "within his limitations" might be a bit vague (within his personal limitations or the first-generation Oculus Quest's limitations?). The use of the word "underpowered" to characterize the Oculus Quest could've just been as clarification to distinguish from the other Quest generations.
It's not clear from the source. Thanks for bringing that up, I'll remove that part. ObserveOwl (talk) 22:36, 6 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

New Gamemodes

[edit]

There are 2 new gamemodes, Freeze Tag and Guardian. 2601:3C6:180:5C00:F1D7:16FD:A484:51B1 (talk) 13:26, 26 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

The official website doesn't mention them, weird. This article is in a weird spot where the gameplay section is a bit out-of-date, but the new gamemodes aren't documented on reliable sources. According to the wiki, the new gamemodes are permanent now, but that can't be cited. Maybe the article can clarify in some way that the previous four modes have been the main ones for most of Gorilla Tag's history. ObserveOwl (talk) 13:52, 26 February 2025 (UTC)Reply
this may not count, but what about the 'custom' gamemode in the vr stump where you can like a mod.io account?  Preceding unsigned comment added by Ch0ch1p.real (talkcontribs) 00:08, 24 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

For the composers I would say add Cody O'Quinn because he made a ton of Gorilla Tag's most popular songs. PinkGT (talk) 14:39, 1 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

@PinkGT: Just asking - does the game provide credits to Cody O'Quinn somewhere? ObserveOwl (talk) 16:09, 1 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Not done for now: In the case that a reliable source (perhaps an official source) is found, I'll add it. The official website lists a few tracks from Stunshine and Kirk, but not O'Quinn. I'll check for further coverage of Gorilla Tag in case the compositors get third-party coverage, or at least get mentioned on an official Gorilla Tag blog post or something. Change game release from 2022 to 2021 Tntman 25 (talk) 03:08, 13 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Not done: As the article states, the first official release outside early access was in 2022. ObserveOwl (talk) 05:31, 13 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Asking for consensus: Monkey or Monke

[edit]

In the trailer video made by the official Gorilla Tag YouTube account, the player model is officialy referred to as Monke yet the article states Monkey instead of the commonly referred to player model, as stated before, Monke.

Should we keep it as Monkey or change it to Monke? EditorShane3456 (talk) 17:54, 25 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Usually, when reliable sources explain the game concept briefly, they use "monkey" or "gorilla". For the sources that are more detailed on the gameplay aspects, Android Central uses "monkey" while ESRB uses "monke". The official website used both when explaining the modes ("Lava Monkey", "Ice Monke"). Since the 2 independent sources explaining the gameplay modes are split, I guess we could stick to the official "monke". But either way, it's just a y, I didn't care that much about it when I wrote the article. ObserveOwl (talk) 18:56, 25 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Gorilla Tag I's a 2021 VR Game, Not A 2022 VR Game Gorilla Tag Player (talk) 12:14, 3 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

It was in early access in 2021 but only fully released in 2022. That being said, I removed the year from the first sentence since it is already explained in that paragraph. ObserveOwl (talk) 13:52, 3 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

the stuff about this is outdated from years ago, like the gamemodes and other type of stuff Wolfvr455 (talk) 21:16, 6 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want made. Please detail the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. --Hammersoft (talk) 21:26, 6 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

I would like to add an updated summary of all Gorilla Tag maps, as some information may be out of date. This should also come with a list of all maps, their release dates and revamp dates (if available.) Thank you for taking the time to read this. DBFI (talk) 10:59, 12 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Not done: Unless there are independent reliable sources commenting on the maps and explaining their importance on the game, a complete list would probably fall under Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Video games#Inappropriate content (#5 or #7). The Gorilla Tag fan wiki is a better place for it. Also, an edit request should be formatted as in "Replace '...' with '...' " or "Add '...' after '...' ", not "I want to edit this page".
