I don't know where to find reference to all of this, anyone know? There were many stores, varied size including those last built in early malls and strip mall type big box stores before there was such a term. They also had a free standing furniture division within the Chicago area Lombard on Butterfield (current Olive Garden with others)-other locations were next to regular Goldblatt's store Joliet - Many small downtown stores in smaller Illinois markets.Kidsheaven19:00, 26 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
If correct I think Lombard they had furniture in the front sections and towards the back an outdoors type section, lots of outdoor furniture, garden section outdoors area towards the back of the building (possible a expansion to the furniture section) Best idea of a current day would be combine a furniture store with some of the outdoors stuff sold at Home Depot's EXPO stores. Thinking of it there may have been a sort of actual garden section too. Hillside Shopping Center (Current Menard's) was a discount store w/possible garden and seasonal section on the West end, also had an Automotive building to the South freestanding later Firestone (current gone vacant lot).
