Nationality

[edit]

Gims isn't french, he applied for french nationality a while ago but was rejected because he had two wives. Polygamy isn't permitted in France and immigration authorities crack down on polygamous african immigrants. Of course he lives in France since childhood and is very well known there but he isn't french. About the article title : nobody calls him Maître Gims anymore, he only wants to be called Gims as of now. 109.3.194.5 (talk) 11:49, 23 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Both Gims and French authorities dispute that his citizenship denial had anything to do with his alleged polygamy. The reasons cited have to do with unpaid fines related to a minor crime committed when he was a minor, and also with the fact that he lives a great deal of the time in Morocco rather than France. https://www.voici.fr/celebrites/gims-ou-en-est-sa-demande-de-nationalite-francaise-les-vraies-raisons-pour-lesquelles-elle-lui-a-ete-refusee-jusquici-812857 Ina Roed (talk) 15:22, 25 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
