I understand that his father was also named George, but the article mostly refers to him as "the King", while George IV is called "George" in both the third paragraph of the lead and the start of the early life section. It is unclear why that is acceptable there but considered confusing elsewhere. Many passages already use phrasing such as "George and his father", which makes the distinction clear. Because this is George IV's article, readers know who is meant. George III's grandfather was also named George, yet he is still referred to simply as "George" throughout his own article without causing confusion, so there is no obvious reason for treating this page differently. For example:
"Acting on George's authority, the Whig leader Charles James Fox declared that the story was a calumny." I don't find it clear which George is meant.
"His father refused to assist him, forcing him to quit Carlton House and live at Fitzherbert's residence. In 1787, George's political allies proposed to relieve his debts with a parliamentary grant." The preceding sentence relates to King George, so in ordinary grammar, the George in the second sentence also relates to the King, which is incorrect.
"George's brother Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany, declared that George ..." Unclear. You have to know beforehand that Frederick is George III's son not brother.
These are just three examples. The changes were wholesale and led to unclear text. As I said in the edit summary, copy edits need to be done with greater care. DrKay (talk) 15:34, 14 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
