Dead or alive?

[edit]

Today for the third time since April 24 2024 I've reverted an uncited IP edit to the effect that this person died on April 23 2024. I can't find anything online to back up this claim, and have also searched Newspapers.com without results. If alive, as I presume he is but can't prove, he's now 87 years old. If Gene Brewer was dead, Locus Magazine would have run an obituary. Since they didn't, it's safe to say that he is still alive, I think. --Gereon K. (talk) 22:41, 14 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
p.s.: And by the way, I don't know where the name Eugene N. Brewer on English Wikipedia comes from. John Clute in his encyclopedia has him as Gene R. Brewer. --Gereon K. (talk) 22:46, 14 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
Four times now... I just reverted a comment left in the death date field that "he passed away several years ago" but without a date stated this time. Very strange. HazelAB (talk) 22:04, 17 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
One of the IP addresses from the edits is in Muncie, Indiana, the other in Indianapolis - I thought it interesting, because Gene Brewer was born in Muncie.
Also, https://genebrewer.com/about.html says "Gene Brewer, July 4, 1937 - April 23, 2024", and "It is with great sadness that I record here Gene's death after a very brief illness. ..." - but the writer doesn't say who they are. I checked the Internet Archive, and the last snapshot from August, 2025 doesn't have the message, so it's been added since.
Lastly, I found https://www.pipershores.org/stories/karen-and-gene-brewer/, first saved by the Internet Archive in September, 2020, which tells how Gene Brewer and his wife decided on a retirement community. ~2026-16444-23 (talk) 00:01, 16 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Very strange. There's still no obituary or death notice in any independent source I can find, including Locus Magazine mentioned above. WorldCat authority file has only a birth date. HazelAB (talk) 13:02, 16 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
