Notability
[edit]The notability criteria for this (and other) lunar craters is covered by Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Common_outcomes#Transportation_and_geography. A named impact crater is comparable to a mountain, and hence is a major geographical feature. It can also be compared to a named asteroid. — RJH (talk) 18:22, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
Geber (Lunar Crater)
[edit]There is a conflict in cross-references, and I have no idea what is correct. See the Wiki entries: Geber (Crater), and List of Craters on the Moon (G). The conflict has to do with the eponym for this crater.
The List page links both the Geber (Crater) page and the page of Geber as the eponym.
This Geber (Crater) page links Jabir ibn Aflah as the eponym.
They do appear to be different people. Who is this crater actually named after.

- I use the USGS site as the IAU standard. It lists Geber as "Jābir Ibn Aflah Al-Ishbīlī, Abū Muhammad; Spanish-Arab astronomer (fl. first half of twelfth cent.)". That looks like it corresponds to the Jabir ibn Aflah article. Thank you for identifying the discrepancy.—RJH (talk) 15:42, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
- there is another cross reference error. the age given for geber in this article is 3.92 to 3.85 bya, and it is assigned to the eratosthenian period. the article on this period lists its beginning at 3.2 bya. Toyokuni3 (talk) 18:53, 31 July 2016 (UTC)
