Is this individual really that compelling? This page seems destined for "speedy deletion". If there are no objections, this page should be deleted immediately. An enumeration of present and past Calvin College presidents is probably useful within the purview of the page on Calvin College but I cannot conceive of Byker even occupying a stub reference!

I propose adding the following short section. It summarizes reporting about the financial review conducted shortly after Byker's retirement. The wording attributes the findings to published sources and does not claim that Byker was solely responsible.

Financial controversy

Shortly after Byker retired as president of Calvin College in 2012, the college disclosed approximately $115 million in debt. A subsequent financial review found a $69.4 million shortfall in funds intended to support the debt. The shortfall resulted from construction costs exceeding fundraising, property purchases for which funds had not been raised, negative cash flow from rental properties, and interest costs exceeding investment earnings.^[1]^[2]

The college had used a construction-financing strategy since 1997 in which it borrowed money for building projects while investing donations intended for those projects, expecting the investment returns to help cover the debt and interest.^[1]^[2]
