Requested move 15 September 2026
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: consensus to move the disambiguation page as proposed, per the discussion below. Although I don't believe the history at the redirect really qualified as "significant", I have preserved it at Garrocho (tree) and labeled it as incomplete disambiguation as suggested. Garrocho (disambiguation) → Garrocho – no "main" meaning. Currently Garrocho redirects to Quararibea asterolepis. --Altenmann >talk 17:19, 15 September 2026 (UTC) — Relisting. Thanks! —1isall (talk | contribs) 22:59, 22 September 2026 (UTC) — Relisting. Axolitl (talk | contribs) 04:49, 30 September 2026 (UTC)
- Delete. Neither Viburnum triphyllum nor Quararibea asterolepis are known as "Garrocho" in English; these entries should be deleted per WP:DABDICT. Garrocho family is a red link and can also be deleted. Garrocho (surname) lists only Carlos Garrocho and should itself be deleted. So we're left with nothing to disambiguate. Retarget Garrocho to Carlos Garrocho. 162 etc. (talk) 17:53, 15 September 2026 (UTC)
- invalid reasoning (a) Nonenglish native names are taken from English WP:RS. We commonly list native names of plants, animals, ghosts, spirits, moonshine, they are useful for searches in non-English sources (b) Garrocho (surname) is a valid surname page: these pages are governed by WP:Anthroponymy rules, not by WP:DAB rules. --Altenmann >talk 18:16, 15 September 2026 (UTC)
- I assume we're here because https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Garrocho&action=history exists. Let's just move that to Garrocho (tree) and include it in this list. --Joy (talk) 08:17, 16 September 2026 (UTC)
- Sorry, this will not work: --Altenmann >talk 15:05, 16 September 2026 (UTC)
- Sure, but that's not a problem for that matter. The basic issue is simply that there's redirect history that we probably shouldn't destroy. We should instead move that away, and repurpose it as {{R from incomplete disambiguation}}.
- But beyond that, the base name should be disambiguated. (Support)
- I also think that Garrocho (surname) is too flimsy to exist at this point. We should merge it up into the Garrocho disambiguation list for now, and have a simple coherent list here.
- In turn, I don't think we should retarget to Carlos, because the term is clearly ambiguous, it might surprise some readers if we short-circuit to that article, even if it is technically the only full article about a Garrocho. When I do a Google Books search for Garrocho, Carlos doesn't come up at all on the first page. For me even a general Google search that excludes Wikipedia doesn't show that name. And there's no obvious advantage for it in long-term significance, either. --Joy (talk) 07:05, 23 September 2026 (UTC)

- Support per nom. -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:00, 24 September 2026 (UTC)
- Support per nomination, Joy and Necrothesp. The redirect to stub entry for Quararibea asterolepis is indeed inadequate to hold primary status. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 00:09, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
- Support per nom. The safest bet is to have the dab page at the basename. (And, as mentioned by Joy, when making space for the disambiguation page, just move the page-history of the redirect to "Garrocho_(tree)" to preserve the page-history.) Paintspot Infez (talk) 05:35, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
