The career section seems to mostly be about Langley's views, beliefs, or criticism of his stances on privacy, not about his career per se. I'd suggest most of the "career" section should be put into some other section, potentially one of the following: Political positions, Personal life, Controversy, Public image. @ProtoKiwi: What's notable about his career is what's in there, though. Separating everything off into sections seems like a bad call here. As for controversy sections, those aren't supposed to exist (see WP:CRITICISM). I've integrated everything together so it provides a comprehensive view of his career. It's not my fault secondary sources only care about these aspects to this extent and don't focus more on the more typical stuff (trust me, I dug really hard). Creating a political positions section does not make sense as none of this is about his political beliefs. Clovermoss🍀(talk)07:04, 2 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
As for your removal of the Faustian bargain link, it was intended to be serious. I can understand why it might look off without background context, but the New Yorker piece used the term and then I ended up siloing it in there because I didn't want to have too much of the article be based off that source. I don't really have a problem with its removal because I see your point here, just wanted to clarify why it was there to begin with.
If we are going to create any additional sections at all, I could maybe compromise with the last paragraph being a "public image" one. My main hesitation stems from the fact that the whole reason he created Flock (the highlight of his career) and how it functions as a company has everything to do with his views on privacy, so I don't think moving more than that last paragraph would really work. I also worry that creating a public image section would be encouraging people to expand it beyond what's WP:DUE. Maybe I'm overthinking that part, though. Good point about the controversy section, I didn't realise this is seen as bad practice.
Is there another section type that might suit views / beliefs / philosophies? He's also talked about the idea of security / safety being a right and a priority that requires compromise on privacy, and talked about how surveillance systems should be combined with drones. Some of this stuff definitely pushes into philosophies on society, technology, and politics. That last paragraph in the Career section is the biggest concern to me. I would expect to see more about what he does, not opinion about what he does. ProtoKiwi (talk) 07:43, 2 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@ProtoKiwi: It's not uncommon for "person does this, people perceive it like this" style content to be how this is integrated, but if that last paragraph is your biggest concern, "public image" seems like it'd make us both happy.
I've seen some of the info you bring up about drones. I feel like it's one of those things that is inherently integrated (he believes that drones are useful, leading him to make a specific business decision). Otherwise that content would be better off in Flock Safety unless there's some other reason for secondary sources to be focusing on Langley specifically.
We're only looking at a two paragraph career section here, but if it becomes more unwieldy in the future and the topics are less self-contained, we could have a "views" section? It sounds like you have some ideas for expansion, so let's see what the article looks like after that and discuss. Clovermoss🍀(talk)07:51, 2 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
