The Strange Lake Niobium-Yttrium-Fluorine (NYF) pegmatites

[edit]

This large Rare Earth project is located in High Arctic Quebec, and is currently being developed by a junior company. It is located in a remote area, with no road access and essentially no infrastructure of any kind. An expensive project to develop and mine. Strange Lake's main appeal is political: giving the western world a secure source of heavy REE metals. Government subsidies would be required to mine the ore. Further complicating the project, the ore straddles the Quebec-Labrador border, and just shipping and refining the ore into saleable products would be complex and expensive. Time will tell if this project can succeed. It already bankreupted the previous owner. Geology for Investors has the details: Strange Lake NYF pegmatites project, published April 2, 2026.
