Gadgie to mean "gypsy"?

The pejorative use of the term in Scotland is a minority one (possibly more common in some dialects, e.g. Dundonian) and never in my puff have I heard it used specifically to mean traveller or gypsy. Is gadjo the most accepted spelling of gorjer/gadjie/gorjo in English? Agreed with the above that I've never heard it used to mean a Gypsy, even as a term of insult, it's always been a fairly-neutral "Not-a-gypsy" - Akin to "gentile" (Which is the translation used in The Dialect Of The English Gypsies by B.C. Smart and H.T Crofton, with translation by Wester Boswell) - The same book lists it specifically to mean "stranger, Englishman, alien, anyone who is not a gypsy".
