The 517 class was designed by GEORGE not JOSEPH Armstrong.

Reference: H. Holcroft, The Armstrongs of the Great Western, 1953, and dozens of later books on the GWR.

 Done Amended, using a different Holcroft book as ref source (because I don't have the book you mention).

Some of the above sites - such as wapedia - will eventually self-amend because they are Wikipedia mirrors. As for the others: it's their own fault for relying on Wikipedia and not verifying the sources, see WP:CITEWIKI#A caution before citing Wikipedia. The spiritus-temporis page is particularly silly, because they've reproduced the wikicode verbatim, without parsing any templates; hence the page contains stuff like "Driving wheels were {{convert|5|ft|0|in|m|3|abbr=on}} (later {{convert|5|ft|2|in|m|3|abbr=on|disp=s}} due to thicker tyres)", which should read "Driving wheels were 5 ft 0 in (1.524 m) (later 5 ft 2 in (1.575 m) due to thicker tyres)". --Redrose64 (talk) 12:36, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
