Not corect phonem for Norwegian

[edit]

The article says:

Pronunciation of g by language
Orthography Phonemes Environment
Norwegian /ɡ/ Except before ei, i, j, øy, y
/j/ Before ei, i, j, øy, y

That's not correct as these words are examples of using /ɡ/:

  • giss
  • gidde
  • gitar
  • gøy
  • geirfugl

While these words uses /j/

  • gi
  • gøying
  • geit

I think it should be like this:

In Norwegian, g is silent before j, as in gjøre (to do). It is usually pronounced as /j/ before ei, øy and i in originally Norwegian words, such as geip (grimace) and gi (give), but as /ɡ/ in originally foreign words, such as geistlig (clerical). Before e and i in originally foreign words, the letter is pronounced in different ways depending on the language the word comes from:

  • as /ɡ/, e.g. general,
  • as /ʃ/, e.g. generøs (generous),
  • or as //, e.g. gentleman.

Before y, g is usually pronounced as /j/, but in many foreign words, it remains /g/.
