Potential move

Hi all. I'm pretty confident I'm effectively talking to myself here, as this page hasn't received any substantial edits from anyone but me thus far (though it's obviously only been less than a month), but I thought it should be noted that the next step for this page is likely to move it to encompass broader coverage of the Fumba Special Economic Zone, though I'm not certain that's exactly what it's called, and figure what's probably the most intelligent move is to figure out the answer to that question before proceeding. In any case, this would allow information on Nyamanzi City and other developments in the immediate environs of the development currently discussed here to be included in a generalized topic area. It wouldn't be ridiculous to assume that if someone's come looking for information on one, they're likely going to soon after be looking for information on the other (in any case, it certainly can't hurt to have it). I figure that this can be sufficiently addressed before anyone gets around to the current GA nomination, by which point it'll have an even better case for inclusion. Summary

This is a good start and with some additional revisions can become a Good Article. In its current state, however, there are a several article inconsistencies/source issues and other issues (e.g. lede is not comprehensive, no images) that lead me to be unable to bestow the Good Article Designation in its current form.

For now, Decision: Hold. I'll pass this back to the nominator to revise the article.

The match is consistent with attributed direct quotations the article already presents in quote marks (for example, "model for Africa's sustainable urban future" and "flagship example of how private investment and public policy can combine to shape greener, more inclusive African cities"). No close paraphrasing of unquoted prose was identified.

Source and Article Inconsistencies

Several citations do not fully support the claims they are attached to.

• The most visible issue is a unit error in the Burj Zanzibar specifications table, where gross area is rendered as "55.350 mi²" and net area as "34.130 mi²." However, the cited OMT Architects page gives both figures in square meters. As rendered, the table tells readers the building covers 55 square miles.
• There is also a 266-vs-293-unit inconsistency between the Burj prose ("The tower was originally set to consist of 266 units") and its specifications table (293 units).
• There is a 149-hectares-vs-149-acres inconsistency between the Background and Development sections.
• The $60 million economic-contribution figure is cited to a Daily News piece that does not contain that number. I happened to find the 60M number in one of your sources. Please check that sources and prose are aligned here and throughout.
• In job creation: "began with four recipients, three from the University of Dar es Salaam, one from Ardhi University" is not supported by ref :9 as written. The cited article confirms four recipients from those two universities but does not allocate them per-institution. Drop the breakdown or cite a source that gives it.
• "By 2023, this was 700 units, half of those being permanent residences." Linked source (ref :4) says "over 700 Phase 1 units completed or under construction as of March 2023." I recommend rephrasing to more closely match the source language.

Lead

• The lead omits several major sections of the body, including the Burj Zanzibar, criticism, events, and tenants. The lead should summarize all sections of the article.

Prose Issues

There are smaller prose issues throughout the article.

• A typo ("acritical component")
• Background. Sentence break: "'it took us five years to get this land'. during this period, local laws were amended..." The "d" of "during" should be capitalized.
• Mixed date formats
• A target/display spelling mismatch on the Hemed Suleiman Abdalla wikilink.
• In sustainable infrastructure and development: "the Fumba Peninsula's nocturnal red colobus monkey population" links to Red colobus (genus). The Zanzibar red colobus is a distinct species (Zanzibar red colobus); the more specific link is preferable.
• Instagram citations for The Citizen's articles are twice used. The underlying news coverage would be a stronger source.
• The section name "Events ground" is not idiomatic. Please rephrase.

Images

There are no images in the article. It would be nice to at least have a map of where Fumba Town is within Tanzania (e.g. an OpenStreetMap-derived map). Other images would be a plus.

Commentary and Criticism section

The single sentence sentence subsection on "Accessibility" seems like it could be expanded (if the author seeks to maintain that subsection). Alternatively, perhaps the Commentary and Criticism section could be a single standalone section, rather than a section with 2 subsections, the second of which is a single sentence.

Talk Page Merger Discussion

I notice that the nominator suggested on the Talk Page that the article be merged into Fumba Special Economic Zone. It would be helpful to clarify this point as part of the GA response.

Hi @Mnation2. Thanks so much for taking on this review, and for the in-depth feedback! I've addressed the most basic issues in the prose, apart from several that require a bit further explanation here. The Instagram articles were the longest I could find on the subject, something I think has to do with TheCitizen trying to reach young Tanzanians via social media. The Burj Zanzibar valuations are based upon two separate figures, one given by the design company, one given by an architectural organization. Good catch on the miles thing, I think I was tired and couldn't see well and figured it was talking about the total area of the building spread out across each room. Still an absurd figure to assume that would come out to, I'll concede. The Accessibility section is based upon the only information I could find online from locals speaking out about that. Tanzanian, and particularly Zanzibari media isn't known for being particularly vocal about anything that has the potential to make the government look bad. I figure you're right about just leaving it as a single section. As regards the difference on Hemed Suleiman, pretty sure it's cause of the way it's spelled in the source vs. the target link, figure it shouldn't pose too much of an issue.

Hi @Mnation2, just reaching out to check your availability. Unfortunately this review came at the same time as the Core Contest and another page I nominated got taken up for review. As regards Fumba Economic Zone, I'm not certain how much information can be found on it particularly. Both Fumba Town and Nyamanzi City, though, are within its limits, and fulfill similar roles, so reasonably speaking it makes sense to combine them together, given that its doubtful there's enough content for both to flesh out two full articles (I say this having already exhausted effectively every source that I could find on Fumba Town, with plans to do the same for Nyamanzi City and other development sites within the zone's demarcation).

It should be noted that adding all such info would likely take longer than the typical hold process of a week. If you wouldn't mind, I'd really appreciate it if we extended the hold period to June 10. If you'd be willing, I could assure you that I'd almost certainly be able to round out the article by then. Let me know what your thoughts are, and I'll look forward to hearing from you soon.

GA Review Round 2

After putting the article on hold for more than a month (versus the typical 1-week for GA review), I am now reviewing the article again. Thank you for the considerable work to improve the article, which was renamed from Fumba Town to Fumba Free Economic Zone and expanded substantially. There are a number of outstanding issues in the current version of the article, as detailed below. For these reasons, unfortunately, the article does not currently meet GA status after the hold period and revision.

1. Is it well written?

   A. The prose is clear, concise and understandable to an appropriately broad audience, and the spelling and grammar are correct:

   There are, in several places, incorrect prose or grammar issue. 1) Comma splice with stray capital: "Nyamanzi City did not begin development until the mid-2020s, This occurred at the same time as..." 2) "The two countries signed several resolutions and treatises" but a treatise is an essay. They signed treaties, not treatises. 3) An unclosed quotation that runs off the end of the sentence: "...described in an opinion by a reporter for The Citizen as "a groundbreaking approach to building sustainable, safe, and equitable homes that

could transform the continent's urban landscape." In some places, the article contradicts itself. The infobox say the FEZ contains six shehias including Bweleo. But the lead lists five, omitting Bweleo.

1. B. It complies with the manual of style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation:

2. Is it verifiable with no original research, as shown by a source spot-check?

   A. It contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline:

   Some sources are counted twice. Author fields are often populated with "staff" or other things besides names of authors.

   B. Reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose):

   The first citation in the article (the ZIPA Master Plan supporting the lead sentence) is a dead link (404), hosted on the Tanzanian embassy in Nigeria, with no archive URL. So key claims cannot be verified. Further, there are several sources from Instagram.

   . In source checks, the article and source were sometimes contradictory. For example, on Burj Zanzibar, the cited Global Construction Review piece is from October 2022 and states that the design was unveiled in Muscat on 1 October 2022. The article says "The development was launched in Muscat, Oman, on 1 October 2025." Also on the Burj Zanzibar point, the article mentions 266 units (originally), then 162 units. But the Infobox gives a third number (293 units), different from both numbers in the text.

   C. It contains no original research:

   Affordability footnote 1 is a clear example of original research, with the footnote itself calculating the amount of years required for an average person in Zanzibar to afford housing and walking through income inequality statistics in Zanzibar.

   D. It contains no copyright violations nor plagiarism:

3. Is it broad in its coverage?

   A. It addresses the main aspects of the topic:

   The article omits some key topics. The article is about a free economic zone but never names Zanzibar's Free Economic Zones Act 1992 or the Zanzibar Free Economic Zones Authority (that administers free economic zones). It also contains no zone-level economics (investment totals, employment, tenant industries)or information about the existing villages' populations. It covers 1992-2012 (the first 20 years of the zones existence) in approximately one sentence (that does not have a citation).

   B. It stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style):

   While some key details seem to be missing, the article dwells on some specific points that seem out of place for an article about a Free Economic Zone. For example, the Fairgrounds -- Futopia subsection gives us a directly quoted list of musicians who performed there ("Bensoul ... Rosa Ree, Damian Soul, Wamoto Music, Humphrey Mubba, Warriors of the East, the all-female Uwaridi Band, Tryphon Evarist, and DJ KCM").

4. Is it neutral?

   It represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each:

   In general, I don't think the article is overly imbalanced. There is a criticism section, as well as description of positive commentary. One exception: the quotation from the developer that they "never treated sustainability as a marketing phrase" seems a little odd to include verbatim.

5. Is it stable?

   It does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute:

6. Is it illustrated, if possible, by images?

   A. Images are tagged with their copyright status, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content:

   I'm happy to see the map added to the article. The other image added is of a nearby place, but it wasn't really clear to me if it was relevant. If there are more specific images to add, that'd still add value, I think.
