Lewis gun's "buttstock"

What Libby calls the "buttstock" (the rifle-style shoulder stock) of the Lewis gun was an integral part of the standard infantry weapon of which the "aircraft" Lewis was a stripped down version. Libby's memory (very long after the event) that he actually designed a stock for the Lewis, rather than having the readily available standard spare part refitted, is one of the very few lapses in his generally very accurate memoirs.
