COI edit request: update Deportivo tenure and current status

[edit]

I am Fran Alonso, the subject of this article, and I am therefore declaring a conflict of interest. I am not editing the article directly. I would be grateful if an independent editor could review the following straightforward factual updates.

1. Infobox

Please remove Deportivo La Coruña (women) from the "Current team" field, as I am no longer the club's manager.

Please change the final managerial-career entry from:

2024– | Deportivo La Coruña (women)

to:

2024–2026 | Deportivo La Coruña (women)

2. Lead sentence

Please replace:

"Francisco Javier 'Fran' Alonso López (born 13 June 1976) is a Spanish football manager who currently manages Liga F club Deportivo de La Coruña."

with:

"Francisco Javier 'Fran' Alonso López (born 13 June 1976) is a Spanish football manager. He most recently managed Liga F club Deportivo de La Coruña's women's team."

3. Career section

Please add the following sentence after the existing sentence concerning his appointment by Deportivo:

"Alonso left Deportivo when his contract expired on 30 June 2026, after helping the club remain in Liga F in two consecutive seasons."

Edit request from the subject: outdated status and missing Premier League career

[edit]

Note on the earlier request on this page. A conflict-of-interest edit request was posted here on 23 August 2026 by the account Pedro sanchez perez. That account was mine. I was blocked at the time and did not realise that posting from a new account was block evasion. I disclosed it myself in my unblock appeal, that account is now blocked, and I was unblocked on 27 August 2026. This request replaces that one, which can be struck or ignored.

Conflict of interest declaration: I am Fran Alonso, the subject of this article. Following WP:COI and WP:AUTOBIOGRAPHY I am not editing the article myself and am posting the requested changes here for an uninvolved editor to review. Every change below is supported by an independent published source. Where a source contradicts something I believe to be true, I have followed the source.

1. The article states I currently manage Deportivo de La Coruña. I left in June 2026

[edit]

The lead and the infobox both present Deportivo as my current club. The club announced in April 2026 that I would leave at the end of the 2025–26 season, and my final match was in May 2026.

Current lead: "...is a Spanish football manager currently managing Deportivo de La Coruña in Liga F."

Proposed lead:

Francisco Javier "Fran" Alonso López (born 13 June 1976) is a Spanish football coach. He was most recently manager of Deportivo de La Coruña in Liga F, and has previously worked in the men's Premier League with Southampton and Everton and managed Celtic F.C. Women and the Houston Dash.[1][2]

Infobox: please change the "current team" parameter so that Deportivo appears as a former club with an end date of 2026, rather than as my current club.

2. Six years in the men's Premier League are missing entirely

[edit]

The article jumps from my birth to Lewes in 2018. It omits 2012 to 2018, which I spent at Southampton and Everton in the men's Premier League. The Houston Dash announcement of my appointment sets out the dates and job titles, and Football Scotland covers the same ground.

Proposed new section, to be placed before the Lewes material:

==== Southampton and Everton ====
Alonso joined Southampton in 2012 and worked as first-team technical coach under Mauricio Pochettino from 2012 to 2014 and under Ronald Koeman from 2014 to 2016. During the same period he was also head coach and later technical director of Southampton Women.[3][4]
In 2016 he moved to Everton as an assistant coach, working under Koeman and subsequently Sam Allardyce, and also assisting the club's women's team. He left Everton in 2018.[3][4]

Supporting quotation from the Houston Dash announcement: "first team technical coach under Maurico Pochettino with Southampton Football Club in the English Premier League from 2012-2014 and under Ronald Koeman from 2014-2016. During that span, the Spanish coach also served as the head coach and the technical director for Southampton Women FC" and "assistant coach with Everton FC under Ronald Koeman in his first year with the club and then Sam Allardyce".

3. The Deportivo section can be completed

[edit]

Proposed text:

Alonso was appointed by Deportivo de La Coruña on 25 November 2024, with the team second from bottom of Liga F in its first season back in the top flight. The club avoided relegation in 2024–25 and again in 2025–26, finishing 12th, which took it into a third consecutive season in the top division for the first time in its history. He managed 49 league matches at the club, winning 13, drawing 13 and losing 23.[1][5]

4. The managerial statistics table: three specific matches appear to be wrong

[edit]

The table is marked "as of matches played on 20 July 2024" and carries a factual accuracy banner with no explanation of what is disputed. I think I can help resolve it. The Celtic row currently reads 140 played, 113 won, 10 drawn, 17 lost. Rather than ask anyone to take my word on a total, here are three individual results that I believe are miscounted. Each one can be checked independently.

(a) A defeat that falls after I had already left the club. I left Celtic on 22 December 2023; my last match in charge was away to Heart of Midlothian on 17 December 2023. The team was then managed on an interim basis by David Haley and from 12 January 2024 by Elena Sadiku. A 1–0 defeat to Glasgow City played after 22 December 2023 appears to be included in my record. Could an editor check the date of that fixture against my departure date?

(b) and (c) Two ties decided on penalties, recorded as defeats. Football statistics, and Template:Managerial statistics as used across this project, record a match drawn after normal or extra time and decided by a penalty shoot-out as a draw, not a loss. Two of my matches fit that description:

  • Vålerenga v Celtic, UEFA Women's Champions League qualifying, September 2023. UEFA records the match as Vålerenga 2–2 Celtic; Celtic were eliminated 11–10 on penalties.[6]
  • Celtic v Spartans, SWPL Cup quarter-final, 23 October 2022. The match finished 1–1 after extra time and Spartans won 4–2 on penalties.[7]

If those three corrections are right, the row becomes 139 played, 113 won, 12 drawn, 14 lost — a win percentage of 81.3 rather than 80.7. I want to be transparent about the status of that total: it is arrived at by correcting the three results above, not by counting every match from the archive, so please treat the individual corrections as the request and the total as their consequence.

I am not asking anyone to accept a figure supplied by me. I am asking that these three matches be checked, and I am happy to help find sources for any of them.

5. Smaller points

[edit]
  • Nationality and place of birth: I was born in Madrid, Spain.[1]
  • If an external links section is appropriate, my site is https://franalonsofa.com — but I leave that entirely to the reviewing editor, since I recognise it is a self-published source and adding it is not something I should be pushing for.

Thank you for taking the time to look at this. I am happy to answer questions or find further sources for anything above.

Partly done: Addressed the improvements to the lead and prose body. No changes made to the tabulised information. I will leave such calculations to you or others. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 00:03, 24 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
