Cheesemaker
[edit]In the June 2025 Archaeology in New Zealand, Leach in a letter to the editor claims he was a cheesemaker before he was an archaeologist, and "One of my 80 pound cheeses won first prize for cheddar in the London Cheese Fair in 1963." It would be good to flesh out his early life with some sources to show how this 21-year-old New Zealander, at this time a possum trapper, deerstalker, and university student, was also a world class cheesemaker.
