Fornax, in Roman mythology, was the goddess of bread and baking, although this has nothing to do with the constellation (fornax is just the Roman word for furnace), as the constellation was created in 1763.

Yes, but why then is that written here? ;-) Very interesting facts written with best intent – but that should require an article Fornax (goddess) or some such. In Fornax (constellation) we would need some text about chemical furnaces as they were used in the end of 18th century in order to get a historically proper mnemonic for learning the constellation. Fornax is the 'Roman' word for furnace, ummm... I think you mean latin...--Part Time Security 13:50, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

The italian word for "Fornax" is "fornace"... I agree with Part Time Security doubt: 'Roman' word has little if no meaning nowadays except if you consider it referred to Romance languages in general that developed from latin from the sixth to ninth centuries. POV or NPOV?

At 14:57(UTC), on the 31st January 2013 a contribution I have made adding (...) of the celestial sphere (...) to the article has been undone by Arthur Rubin (talk) with the following motivation:

Reverted 1 edit by Maurice Carbonaro (talk): No sense this makes. ...

It looks Point of view to me and a violation to Neutral point of view that editors would normally expect from an Administrator.

I stand by that. The celestial sphere has little to do with constellations. If you got the idea from another constellation article, please let me know, so I can remove it there. — Arthur Rubin (talk) 08:45, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

Proposed image addition: NOIRLab annotated chart of Fornax

Hello, I am affiliated with NSF NOIRLab and would like to propose an additive image contribution to this article for community review. This is an additive proposal — the existing naked-eye photograph (File:Constellation Fornax.jpg) would remain exactly where it is. I am proposing to place a complementary annotated chart immediately above it in the same "Features" section, so that readers have both the visual impression of the constellation and an identification reference with IAU boundaries and labeled stars.

• Proposed change: Add a new annotated wide-field image of Fornax at the top of the "Features" section, directly above the existing File:Constellation Fornax.jpg.
• Image: File:Fornax (Annotated) (fornax-ann).tiff
• Suggested caption: The constellation Fornax showing the IAU boundaries, the constellation stick figure, and labels for its brightest stars. Astrophotograph by Eckhard Slawik, from NOIRLab's 88 Constellations project.
• Placement and layout: Layout A — both images preserved in the "Features" section. The annotated chart is added as a new left-aligned thumb above the existing naked-eye photograph, which remains untouched in its current position. The Features section contains several paragraphs of dense prose covering the Bayer designations, the three brightest stars, deep-sky objects, and the Fornax Cluster, so there is ample vertical text to accommodate two stacked thumbnails without crowding. The two image types serve genuinely different reader needs: the existing photograph conveys the naked-eye visual impression, while the annotated chart provides an identification reference. Both belong.
• License: CC BY 4.0 (NOIRLab/NSF/AURA), as documented on the Commons file page.
