I think it might be appropriate to feature a Noble Prize winner a little more prominently in the Alumni section, no disrespect to the ball players, hip hop stars, and actors. Cheers. 199.189.199.198 (talk) 20:12, 21 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome to rewrite the section in prose similar to what's done at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill#Alumni and University College London#Notable people. That would give you the opportunity to move this alumnus to beginning of the section in a way that would not be jarring for readers. ElKevbo (talk) 22:15, 21 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Requested updates to Foothill College article

[edit]

Disclosure: I am an employee of Foothill College and have disclosed my affiliation on my user page. I am requesting independent review of the following proposed changes rather than making these changes directly.

Request 1: Remove the men's basketball paragraph.

Current text: "On December 10, 2001, Foothill College abruptly canceled its men's basketball season after completing just six games. Questions arose over how housing and tuition for six international players were being paid by Tariq Abdul-Wahad, then with the NBA's Denver Nuggets and alumnus of San Jose State University."

Requested change: Remove this paragraph.

Reason: This incident occurred more than 20 years ago, and I believe this level of detail about a single historical athletics incident may no longer be relevant or proportionate to the current overview of Foothill College. I would appreciate an independent editor reviewing whether this material continues to warrant inclusion in the article.

Request 2: Update Sunnyvale Center history

Current text: In 2002, a second campus was opened on the site of the former Cubberley High School in Palo Alto, in facilities leased from the Palo Alto School District.

Proposed replacement: In the mid-1980s, Foothill College added classes at a second campus on the site of the former Cubberley High School in Palo Alto, in facilities leased from the Palo Alto School District.

Addition to the same paragraph: The Sunnyvale Center houses three of Foothill College's health programs—Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, and Paramedic/EMS—as well as the college's Workforce and Apprenticeship programs.

Reason: The proposed revision corrects the history of Foothill College's presence at the Cubberley site and adds current information about the academic and workforce programs housed at the Sunnyvale Center. I do not currently have an independent published source for these details and would appreciate assistance identifying an appropriate source or determining whether the existing references support the changes.

Request 3: Review outdated international student recruitment content

I would like to request removal of the following sentence: "The school was harshly criticized in 2002 by The Wall Street Journal for its aggressive recruitment of such students, since they are a lucrative revenue source who pay a much higher tuition."

This statement concerns a specific controversy from 2002. Given the age of the material and the scope of the current article, I would appreciate an independent editor reviewing whether this incident continues to warrant this level of emphasis in the present-day overview of Foothill College or whether its inclusion gives undue weight to a historical controversy.

Request 4: Add Academic Reputation section

I would like to request the addition of a new "Academic reputation" section.

Proposed text:

Academic reputation

In its 2026 rankings, Niche ranked Foothill College first among community colleges in the United States and first among community colleges in California (source: https://www.niche.com/colleges/foothill-college/).

Most Foothill College students attend the college with the goal of transferring to a four-year institution. In 2025, the top transfer destinations were San Jose State University, the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of California, Los Angeles. That year, Foothill transferred 329 students to University of California campuses, 328 to California State University campuses, and 240 to private and out-of-state universities. (Source: https://ccctransfer.org/resources/transfer-data.php).

Foothill College has offered bachelor's degree programs since 2018. In 2026, the college awarded 50 Bachelor of Science degrees in Dental Hygiene and 25 Bachelor of Science degrees in Respiratory Care. A third bachelor's degree program, in Building Trades Management, was approved in 2026 (Source:https://www.losaltosonline.com/news/foothill-college-launches-bachelor-s-degree-offering/article_ad32107a-b52f-41b6-bde9-299959753d64.html).

Reason: This section would provide current information about Foothill College's academic rankings, transfer outcomes, and bachelor's degree programs.

Request 5: Remove the Foothill Electronics Museum section

I would like to request removal of the "Foothill Electronics Museum" section in its entirety. The section describes a museum that operated on the Foothill College campus from 1973 until 1991. The collection subsequently left the college and was eventually acquired by History San José in 2003.

Given that the museum closed more than three decades ago and the collection is no longer associated with Foothill College, I would appreciate an independent editor reviewing whether this level of historical detail remains relevant to an overview article about the college. The section is relatively extensive compared with its connection to Foothill's current academic programs, operations, and institutional history.

If appropriate, I am requesting that the section be removed rather than updated.

Request 6: Add women's badminton to intercollegiate teams under the Athletics Section

Please add women's badminton to the list of Foothill College intercollegiate athletic teams.

Proposed addition:

Women's badminton

Reason: Women's badminton is an active Foothill College intercollegiate athletic program.
