A comment on the reassessment
[edit]This article lacks considerable amount of vital information, e.g. more consistent info about life cycle, general ecology, general anatomical description, shell description and such. Taxonomy!!
[edit]The taxonomy of this superfamily seems to be extremely labile as of recently. New papers do not seem to agree whether the family Coryphellidae should be monogeneric or polygeneric, or if it is even a valid family. With extremely unfortunate timing, I spent quite a few hours last year moving pages and changing the taxonomy of pages under the Coryphellidae to match the monogeneric hypothesis presented by WoRMS and a 2022 source. A few months later, a 2025 paper (and subsequent Wiki edits) moved them all back as they were. Now, in the last 10 days, a new paper has come out that groups them all back into a single genus, and merges the family with the Flabellinidae.
It seems to me that the taxonomy is not fully resolved. I'd hate to see so much time wasted on moving pages back and forth, which has potential to cause confusion and accumulate errors in the process.
It may be wise to collectively stick to one hypothesis and stop moving pages until a consensus is reached. Let me know your thoughts on how this should proceed. Bloodshot20 (talk) 05:20, 30 May 2026 (UTC)
- For context, some genera within what is currently the Coryphellidae (Orienthella and Microchlamylla) have had all instances of their previous genus Coryphella removed from the species-level articles, but the species article pages have not been moved to match the new genus name. Occidenthella remains a redirect to Coryphella, but is still listed as its own genus on the Coryphellidae page. All other genus and species articles within the family have been moved appropriately, but some still need a lot of work to accurately reflect the changes made.
- From a quick glance, the Flabellinidae and Paracoryphellidae don't seem to be as affected by these recent developments, but as they are affected by the May 2026 paper, I am including them here as part of the discussion proactively to prevent what has happened to the Coryphellidae from happening here.
