Fish crow range

I’ve noticed that fish crows tend to live further west than on the distribution map. I live in Ohio and I went up to Lake Erie and clearly heard the beautiful fish crows. I Saw them too but since of their similarities with other crows it wasn’t as noticeable 24.101.237.121 (talk) 20:23, 7 February 2025 (UTC)

The range map we have here is identical to that at the IUCN reference. If you can find another map we can use instead, then perhaps we can change it. However, I suggest that what you think is a fish crow may be a different species. - UtherSRG (talk) 21:41, 7 February 2025 (UTC)

i don't think the anonymous user above was mistaken in regards to identifying the birds as fish crows. as noted by this very article and the sources it cites, the range of fish crows has been expanding considerably since the 1900s. if fish crows can be spotted regularly along the canadian coast of lake ontario, it doesn't seem unreasonable to think they could be present on ohio's lake erie coast by now as well. the page List of birds of Ohio even lists fish crows as present- although, granted, it does not cite a source. however, the only other species listed which could potentially be mistaken for a fish crow is the american crow, which is quite distinctive in its call. the user above said that their observation was primarily made by the calls. i myself live in an area which the map says has no fish crows, though it is much closer to a shaded area that lake erie, and know for a fact that fish crows are present, having even seen the two local species of crow interact. information is not static, especially in regards to living organisms and their distribution. the iucn map is outdated, plain and simple, and simply hasn't been updated yet because updating such information every time it changed would be a massive undertaking.

john bartram?

i noticed that there's a brief mention of "john bartram's great seaside crow." however, when i try to scour the internet for any other references to this, all i can find are unsourced paragraphs using the exact same wording as this article, and always in relation to fish crows. so what exactly is this a reference to? i can't seem to find anything.
