I got a scanned copy of Chitty's second book on fire marks from the NLA. It is incomplete. It is clear from that text that he sometimes confused Agency Signs issued by insurers to agents for advertising which were in use right up to the middle (and later) of the 20th Century with Fire Marks. However he does give enough examples (including photos) of use of fire marks to demonstrate the credibility of their use in Australian cities. In regard to the calico signs he quotes a letter he received describing their use. Silent Billy (talk) 03:02, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

No Urban Myth

As it reads at the moment, the article states that it is an urban myth that fire fighters from an insurance company wouldn't put out uninsured fires, but the reference provided does NOT support that and other articles on wikipedia discuss this happening.
