- ... that the hard SF novel Finity tackles concepts such as quantum physics, abductive reasoning and many-worlds interpretation, while tackling the mystery of the disappearance of the United States? Source: Quantum physics is mentioned in every source. Abductive reasoning is stressed by several, such as Wolfe and Broderick. MWI is mentioned by Broderick (as Many Worlds). The plotpoint of the disappearance of US is mentioned in most sources (ex. Wolfe).

Overall:
I think the hook can be improved. A casual reader will not immediately know what SF stands for and you use "tackle" twice. How about the following:
ALT1: ... that the science fiction novel Finity tackles concepts such as quantum physics, abductive reasoning and many-worlds interpretation, while the United States had mysterious vanished?A.Cython(talk) 01:20, 8 April 2026 (UTC)- @A.Cython: Sounsd good to me! --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 00:21, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
- Great,
I approve ALT1.Nice work. A.Cython(talk) 00:29, 10 April 2026 (UTC)- @A.Cython: I do worry the transition is a bit jarring. How about AlT1a: --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 23:54, 11 April 2026 (UTC)

- ALT1a: ... that the science fiction novel Finity tackles concepts such as quantum physics, abductive reasoning and many-worlds interpretation, while its protagnonists ponder why the United States had mysterious vanished?
- If you are happy then I am happy too, but first the spelling of "protagnonists" → protagonists must be fixed. A.Cython(talk) 23:58, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
- ALT1b: ... that the science fiction novel Finity tackles concepts such as quantum physics, abductive reasoning and many-worlds interpretation, while its protagonists ponder why the U.S.A. had mysteriously vanished?
- I approve ALT1b which is nearly identical with ALT1a but fixing the spelling.A.Cython(talk) 00:04, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Piotrus and A.Cython: Is there a reason why these hooks don't violate WP:DYKFICTION? They seem to be reciting/summarizing the plot and content of a fictional work, whereas hooks at DYK
must be focused on a real-world fact
. Dclemens1971 (talk) 20:48, 26 April 2026 (UTC)- @Dclemens1971: Apologies, I was not aware of this. Is a hook based on the book review comments legal? — Preceding unsigned comment added by A.Cython (talk • contribs) 06:30, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
- @Dclemens1971: Hmmmm, fair point, but at the same time, these are real world scientific concepts, and the reviewers tend to discuss how they are used in the novel extensively. Isn't saying, simplisticly, "this book engages with real world scientific theory X" satisfying the cited guideline? Consider some of the following ALTs. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 00:53, 27 April 2026 (UTC)

- ALT2: ... that a central conceptual element in the science fiction novel Finity is the use of abductive reasoning, a form of logical inference associated with the philosopher Charles Sanders Peirce?
- ALT3: ... that the science fiction novel Finity explores the concepts of parallel worlds and alternate histories through the lens of modern physics, particularly interpretations of quantum mechanics such as the Copenhagen interpretation?
- ALT4: ... that the science fiction novel Finity draws on and reinterprets established genre conventions related to the concepts of parallel worlds and alternate histories?
- @Piotrus and A.Cython: Don't know what the issue of "legality" would be, but I think the DYKFICTION issue is this part of the hook:
while its protagonists ponder why the U.S.A. had mysteriously vanished?
The first part would be fine on the DYKFICTION front (the subject matter of fiction is fair game, just not the plot details), although I don't think these hooks pass WP:DYKINT; it is not uncommon for scifi books to cover these subjects, and some of them (like ALT3 and ALT4) are not particularly accessible. Do the reviewers highlight unusual or fresh ways in which the novel engages these subjects? Dclemens1971 (talk) 01:01, 27 April 2026 (UTC)- @Dclemens1971: You can always ask at WT:DYK, but in my experience, some plot is fine in the hooks as long as it's not 100% (i.e. my understanding of DYKFICTION is not that it forbids hooks that mention plot - it forbids hooks that mention nothing but plot). --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:08, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

Ok, then I approve ALT5 (full credit goes to Piotrus), hopefully this is ok by the others. A.Cython(talk) 02:23, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
