Possibility of moving official international visits information to separate article
[edit]A separate article documenting a list of official state visits of Fidel Castro would be commonsensible, as is the case with Vladimir Putin, Elizabeth II, Harald V, Birendra of Nepal, Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, Haakon VII, and several more. To further reason, several articles on other politicians or dictators do not have this section in their articles, making this a possible approach for a list this long that is rarely seen in other articles. Finleyreese (talk) 23:42, 31 May 2026 (UTC)
- I would be fine with deleting the whole section as too much detail, but spinning out is also a viable option. Z1720 (talk) 23:43, 31 May 2026 (UTC)
- Please elucidate what you mean by "spinning out." That phrase is not familiar to me. Finleyreese (talk) 01:40, 1 June 2026 (UTC)

- What I think should be changed (format using {{textdiff}}):
The section titled "Wealth"
- Why it should be changed:
The section relies upon what is admitted by the Forbes magazine article to be "assumptions" that Castro was receiving profits from Cuban industries that he was again "assumed" to control. No factual evidence is presented to support this. The amount of personal wealth attributed to Castro is grossly different from what he himself claimed in the Al-Jazeera article that is cited in the section but not quoted. These assumptions are not neutral statements, they profoundly damage Castro's credibility politically. The second part of the section called "Wealth" bases claims of personal assets from the rumors of an ex-personal body guard who fled Cuba for the United States with no references to factual evidence. This reliance on "assumptions" and "rumors" weakens the entire article on Castro: these claims must be backed up with actual evidence or the section itself needs to be eliminated.

- Ok thank you, understood.
- I would ask for the following change:
- From: "Forbes magazine ranked Castro as the seventh wealthiest ruler in the world at an estimated personal wealth of approximately 900 million US dollars in 2006, going from 550 million US dollars in their 2005 list. The estimate is based on the magazine's assumption that Castro had economic control over a network of state-owned companies, including CIMEX, Medicuba, the Havana Convention Palace, and the assumption that a portion of their profits went to Castro through investments. Suggesting that Castro's fortune multiplied, growing from 103 million to 850 million euros, equivalent to 900 million dollars, in just three years, the Forbes article also referred to rumours of Castro's Swiss bank accounts with "large stashes" of this fortune. According to Juan Reinaldo Sánchez, a former personal bodyguard of Castro, his assets included Cayo Piedra, a private island; over twenty mansions; a marina with yachts; encrypted bank accounts; and a gold mine"

These assumptions and rumors concerning Castro's personal wealth remain speculation without evidence to back them up. Before his death, Castro vehemently denied the accusations calling them "repugnant slander" and stating that his personal net worth amounted to approximately 900 Cuban pesos (40 US dollars) a month. The head of the Cuban Bank also denied the possibility of Castro accumulating such a large sum." (https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2006/5/16/castro-denies-900m-fortune-claim). Adorno1966 (talk) 04:07, 4 August 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for providing a specific changeset.
- Including Castro's denial of the claim seems important, but reiterating that Forbes's claims are speculative and characterising them as "accusations" feels unnecessary. Additionally, you write that his "net worth" is 900 pesos/month, but in the article he says his net worth is "nil" and that his income is 900 pesos/month.
- Considering this, how does the following revision sound?
