Fig burn?

[edit]

Having just experienced it myself, I've looked up something referred to as 'fig burn,' which some appear to attribute to the ficin in the latex from figs. Basically a nasty burning sensation in the tongue or lips or contact dermatitis when picking many of them.

Just wondering if there are any verifiable sources online that would pass muster in support of this and whether it should go in the article, maybe mentioning that the ficin in fig latex may cause a painful burning sensation in the tongue, lips or skin if figs are eaten or picked too early...? 70.102.117.22 (talk) 22:33, 7 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Is it Ficain or Ficin? Or both? Jooojay (talk) 02:02, 16 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
