Did Pons and Fleischman measure the FE?

In private discussions with Fleischman, he admitted that he never measured the Faraday efficiency in his operating cells. He may have measured it in a simulated cell, similar to the cold fusion cells, but not in the actual ones. Under conditions which do not produce excess heat, the Faraday efficiency is always 100%. --Rabbiz (talk) 03:02, 13 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

The experiment descriptions which I've read (e.g. NASA's attempted replication) similarly do not measure Faraday efficiency. I've sort of assumed that this was a reasonable shortcut in the experiment that was testing for a reaction that would have (but did not) produce more than 2x expected heat. It is difficult to do calorimetry on electrolysis cell. Electrolyte evaporates; worse than that, there's extremely fine mist of electrolyte in the gas. 78.60.47.216 (talk) 13:31, 23 May 2010 (UTC) ahh, and also, it would've been more reasonable to build a closed system which would entirely recombine (with flame or catalytically) hydrogen and oxygen within the unit, so that nothing except electricity enters or leaves the cell. 78.60.47.216 (talk) 13:38, 23 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
