Hi! I work for a communications firm that represents Equinix, and I'd like to request some updates to this article:

Lead

• Updating ref for 2017 revenue in infobox:
• Adding ref after Charles J. Meyers (CEO and President):
• In first sentence, replacing related services with the more specific data centers.
• Updating the second sentence with a more current reference and updated data: The company leads in global colocation data center market share, with 200 data centers in 24 countries on five continents.
• Updating second paragraph for grammar fixes and newer information (ref name already in use in article): It is listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange under the ticker symbol EQIX, and as of 2018, it had approximately 7,200 employees globally. The company converted to a real estate investment trust (REIT) in January 2015.
• Deleting Equinix reported 2016 revenues of $3.61 billion., which is redundant of infobox and outdated.

History

• I recommend making the "Expansion" a subsection of the "History" section titled "Acquisitions and expansion".
• To that end, I recommend deleting Its purchase of TelecityGroup in early 2016 established the company as the largest colocation provider in Europe. In May 2017, it completed the purchase of 29 Verizon data centers. from the end of the first paragraph. It fits better as part of the "Expansion" section, and the second sentence is sourced to a press release.
• At the end of the second paragraph, replacing and remains the company's executive chairman. with , until Charles Meyers was named as the company's president and CEO in September 2018.

Acquisitions and expansion

• Add to beginning of section: In 2002, Equinix merged with i-STT, the Internet infrastructure service subsidiary of Singapore Technologies Telemedia, and Pihana Pacific. This established the company’s presence in China, Singapore, Australia and Japan.
• Deleting the stray A" at the end of the second paragraph.
• Combine the two paragraphs that both start with In 2015,, and change the second In 2015, to That same year,.
• Seems to me like the "The size of the deal..." paragraph should be part of the paragraph before it. I could also see removing it entirely; I'm not certain it's notable.

(This figure was recently updated in the live article without updating the source, which does not reflect the new number.)
• Deleting Smith said the interconnection available within his company's broad data center footprint allows organizations to distribute IT closer to employees, customers and markets without having to build and manage the needed connectivity themselves. "We spend a lot of capital to build these facilities and companies take advantage of it.", which I think is probably WP:UNDUE.
• Adding to end of second paragraph: In 2017, the company launched its own data center infrastructure management platform, called IBX SmartView, for monitoring and maintaining data center operations. The company's Internet Exchange service allows ISPs, content providers, and large enterprises to exchange internet traffic through a global peering tool.
• Deleting The firm has received various International Standards Compliance (ISO) certifications related to physical and data security at its data centers. They include ISO / IEC 27001:2005 and 27001:2013 Information Security Management System Standard, related to information and physical security and business continuity, and the PCI-DSS Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, related to physical security access to customer equipment., which is sourced to a primary source.

Data center (IBX) locations

• I think this makes most sense as as a subsection of "Data centers".
• I also don't know that this needs the full table treatment; a simple list of countries may work better. Notably, Portugal is missing from the list.

• Mary Gaulke - at first glance this all seems quite reasonable to me. However, your request requires a huge amount of work due to the number of edits involved. It might be easier for us to process if you simply sandboxed a version of the article with all of these edits incorporated so we could just copy/paste the whole thing en masse (while also preserving the point-by-point here for review purposes). COI edit request: Advert flag

Hi! As noted above, I work for a communications firm that represents Equinix.

A few months ago, Mean as custard added {{Advert}} to the top of this article, but did not note why. As Chetsford said above, this template is usually meant to be temporary while a discussion about the article's tone is ongoing. So I'd love to start that discussion. I've done a review of the article's text and didn't spot any obvious issues. Does anyone else have thoughts on which areas of the article need to be fixed? If so, I'm happy to help with providing a first draft of proposed changes; if not, I'm requesting that {{Advert}} be removed from this article.

@MaryGaulke: - Hi there. I did get a chance to review. Unfortunately I do have to agree that the page is a bit more promotional than encyclopedic. It's also very LONG. Ideally a Wikipedia page should give people a concise overview of the company, its history, notable activities, etc. I do think a rewrite of some parts would be good. I think a shorter, leaner article would better serve readers. Some examples of parts I feel could be adjusted or removed:

• "Over the next seven years, the company nearly tripled its data center portfolio, growth the company attributes to increased demand for interconnection services caused by the emergence of ..." - this last part could be removed.
• Parts of the Acquisitions section feel like they could be condensed. Perhaps at the time some of the extra sentences might have been worthwhile, but years later they are no longer necessary.
• Under "Data centers", "Equinix claims to have invested more than $25 billion since its founding to build its data center platform." is an example of the "tone" that seems off.
• Under Data centers, Cloud, and Enterprise, there is a good bit that feels promotional about how Equinix is responding to various different changes. Another example, "Equinix says its appeal to the enterprise market is based on its network density, cloud expertise and what it says is a growing enterprise"
• I'm not clear on why there is a separate small section about "US Government Clients" - I'm not sure that is notable enough to be included in an encyclopedia entry.
• Similarly, the "SmartKey" section seems very random and more there to promote a product from Equinix. If this is notable, it may make more sense to be included in the earlier section about the services Equinix provides.

Those are just some of what I see as areas I suggest need some work. Part of it is - if you were reading an encyclopedia entry about Equinix, do these sentences really merit being included? Do they inform the reader succinctly about Equinix?

If you do want to take a shot at a first draft in a sandbox page, I would certainly look at that. - Dyork (talk) 18:11, 27 June 2020 (UTC)

• It could also make sense to move some information from the "Acquisitions and expansion" subsection of History to here. Specifically, this paragraph (updating "The same year" to "In 2015"):

The pledge followed criticism in 2014 from the environmental group Greenpeace, which said in an annual report on the environmental practices of Internet companies that Equinix had an insufficient commitment to renewable energy and carbon emissions mitigation. Internet Exchange

Equinix runs the world's third largest Internet Exchange, and largest in the United States (sf. List of Internet exchange points by size). This article has almost nothing. What am I missing? These exchange/peering points are the core of the global internet. Everything moves through them. They are like major naval ports or airline hubs, but even more central. -- GreenC 22:19, 21 February 2025 (UTC)

If true, that would be really cool. But I just ran a few searches on Google, Google Scholar, and Google Books and I didn't come across any third-party reliable sources supporting that point. The only things coming up that seem to be making that point are Equinix press releases, which have obvious WP:SPS and WP:COI issues. N Declined  In the case of replaced text, there is not always an inclusion in the request of the old text to be removed. If you could ensure that, it would be much appreciated. As far as the snippits of information about data centers opening or being acquired, Wikipedia considers the enduring notability of persons and events. Most newsworthy announcements do not qualify for inclusion, as routine news coverage is not by itself a sufficient basis for inclusion of the subject of that coverage. To allow for inclusion of this information in the article, please establish the notability of the subjects being discussed. You can do that by ensuring that the subjects being mentioned have wikilinks. The COI editor is razer focused on ensuring wikilinks for other things in the proposal, (say, geographical places being mentioned) but not so much for the business entities being discussed (e.g., In 2020, Equinix finalized the purchase of Packet) where Packet is not wiklinked, but sure enough, Toronto, Montreal, Calgary are wikilinked, as if a reader, whose made it down to this sublevel of paragraph to learn about the finalization of the deal regarding Packet might have suddenly forgotten what Montreal is. In other words, less focus on ensuring that major Canadian cities are wikilinked, and more focus on Wikilinks for the business entities being discussed. Thank you! It appears that this characterization was placed 7 years ago in response to an edit request from MaryGaulke, where Mary specifically asked for the following sentence to be added to the article: "The company converted to a real estate investment trust (REIT) in January 2015". If you're trying to change what that editor asked for, I think we need to hear from them first. @Spintendo: Thanks for the ping! The way I see it, the misleading word in the current phrasing is "until", which implies the company no longer operates in internet connectivity and data center colocation centers. That edit (which also made "specializes" past tense) came last December, much more recently than my previous requests. Rather than conflicting with what I proposed, Jon Gray's wording is closer to the text I suggested and the version that existed after the previous requests. I'll update the {{edit COI}} template now. Your request 7 years ago left in the phrase "specializes in" (present tense) but then introduced the phrase "converted to" (past tense). The edit request from December that you're referring to merely attempted to resolve a contradiction that you introduced. What the edit request needs to resolve is how the subject company can specialize in a field that they converted away from. I dont see how they can do both at the same time.
