Named for the Marqués de Ensenada?

[edit]

When was the city of Ensenada founded? Was it named for Zenón de Somodevilla y Bengoechea (1702-1780), Marquis of Ensenada and prime minister of Spain under King Ferdinand VI? A paragraph on the history of Ensenada would be helpful. — Diamantina 21:28, 17 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Regarding the move request (the proper forum really needs to be set up here)

[edit]
  • Oppose What articles link to statistically isn't a basis for naming. If 100 articles link to Ensenada that actually intend to link to this article, then 100 links need updating. This article title is in the proper form. --Davidstrauss 09:19, 9 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Not moved. Feel free to make Ensenada the dab page again. Nightstallion (?) 09:05, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Crime ?

[edit]

Is there any crime issues visitors should know about?

According to this New York Times article[1], it appears the answer is yes. I suspect that you can come up with a list dos and don'ts to avoid problems, but it looks like you'll want to do your research first.

population

[edit]

I'm wondering what the population change was between 2005 and 2010. It seems that the problem is a change of the defined population. before 2010 it seems to refer to city population (https://www.citypopulation.de/php/mexico-bajacalifornia.php?cityid=020010001) and from 2010 onwards seems to refer to the municipality's population (https://www.citypopulation.de/php/mexico-admin.php?adm2id=02001).  Preceding unsigned comment added by Alosapien (talkcontribs) 17:33, 11 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

naming again

[edit]

I can see there's been some history on this, but I think this city's article should have the name Ensenada, with the disambiguation page being Ensenada (disambiguation). Are there substantial objections to this? —Steve Summit (talk) 14:16, 28 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Website blocked?

[edit]

The website for Welcome to Ensenada Baja Mexico looks like Wikipedia is blocking it for some reason. Is there a way to find out why? Kortoso (talk) 18:41, 7 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

fish tacos

[edit]

I went on a tour of Ensenada recently, and the tour guide claimed that fish tacos were invented in Ensenada. I came here to find a "citation needed" for the claim as well, and it seems like a difficult claim to document. Did manage to find this: https://www.npr.org/2007/09/12/14333245/in-love-with-the-fish-taco-and-its-hometown 136.52.102.120 (talk) 19:47, 16 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Fish Tacos

[edit]

Hi everyone, I am an ASU student working on a media literacy project. I noticed the recent discussion about the origin of fish tacos. I have found a reliable source from NPR that discusses Ensenada's claim to the fish taco's origin. I plan to add this citation to the 'Cuisine' section to help verify this cultural fact. Please let me know if you have any suggestions! Bbjackiebb (talk) 02:25, 21 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
