It seems dubious to me that a court record of 20/4/1646 would be referring to the same Edmund Ingalls who is reported to have died in 1643. Do the records from which this original article draws support lend weight to the conclusion that these are the same person?

Good point. That does seem odd. It could be that one of the dates is either wrong on the paper or mistyped. I'll look into it when I get the chance.
