Merged tag

I've boldly merged the content here to List of early English cricketers to 1786 following the PROD removal. The content as it was was massively speculative - there is no indication who he actually played for in any source as far as I can tell, let alone when he played. It seems to be one of those articles where an editor has gone "well, he must have been playing about then, so he must have been this age because him mother was 103 and because he lived here he must have played for these teams". In other words, really not accurate in any way. His obituary persuades me that this isn't an AfD candidate, but if we take out the speculation, guesswork and stuff that someone made up we're left with nothing more than what's in the table at the destination page. Yawn! As usual, a pile of absolute BS. And, as usual, neither the article nor the source has been understood. Also, as usual, a complete inability to work out that the man must have been born c.1695, and that he must therefore have been playing in the 1710s, the 1720s, and perhaps the 1730s. And, as he was resident in Chertsey, where there was a famous cricket club, in Surrey, an active county at the time. Such simple logic is just too much! And then there's his mum, who's obiter dictum, and nothing to do with his cricket.

It is interesting that Rowland Bowen commented on the need for historical analysis when discussing players about whom little is known, due to the paucity of media coverage during their careers. Analysis is a specialist skill that is beyond the limited capabilities of someone who explains his appalling incompetence in terms of "as far as I can tell" (his "far" being a couple of centimetres, if that). There would be little to no hope of producing quality articles on this site if such persons were allowed to determine coverage on the basis of how far they can tell.
