Etymology
[edit]Why 'drummer', and not 'drumist' as per pretty much every other musical instumentalist? Even a person who generically plays precussion is a 'precussionist' and not a'precussioner'. So why the 'er' suffix on 'drummer'? 203.13.3.93 (talk) 02:05, 16 February 2024 (UTC)

- Why 'jeweller' and not 'jewellist', or 'typer' not 'typist'? I have also wondered why makers of kebabs are not referred to as 'kebabists' or 'kebabers'. gilgongo (talk) 17:17, 3 January 2026 (UTC)
