Divaricating Internodes?
[edit]The sentence: "Plants are said to be divaricating when their growth form is such that each internode diverges widely from the previous internode, producing an often tightly interlaced shrub or small tree" is not clear. How can an internode diverge? Is "Phlox divaricata" a shrub or small tree? No. Here's a suggested rewording: "Plants are said to be divaricating when their growth form consists of a wide-angled, zig-zag branching pattern that produces an interlaced, spreading, mat-like foliage."
