February 2011: expansion

Just making an outline for others wishing to help expand the article stub:

• History & "first use" of the term/acronym with source. Focus Enhancements uses it the most, it appears (photos of FS-100 show DTE^® Technology). Panasonic P2 system may have been the origin of the workflow concept.
• Description of NLE workflow that led to the technology.
• Major video company players & equipment models extant:
  • Panasonic [P2 system]
  • Sony [HVR-MRC1, MRU, etc.]
  • Focus Enhancements [Firestore FS-series]
  • Aja [KiPro, KiPro Mini]
• Advantages over tape:
  • Non-linear files rather than "real-time" tapes.
  • Editors & data-jockeys/camera assistants can work quicker.
• Disadvantages/drawbacks:
  • File-transfer bottlenecks due to FireWire & computer bus speeds:
    • IEEE 1394 (FW-400/i.Link) vs. IEEE 1394b (FW-800)
    • Although "non-linear", still "takes time" due to large filesizes.
• Future of industry direction:
  • No "crystal balling", rather current white-papers & future-product announcements/prototypes.
  • E.G.: Fibre-optic interfaces for increased speed/thru-put on the horizon? Chip-speed limitations?
• Visuals:
  • Typical small form-factor model & storage card/module.
  • Typical on-camera Velcro "kludge" and/or hot-shoe mount.
  • Need free-use WP:CC-BY-SA materials.
  • Possible workflow diagram?
